Martin Luther king Jr: I have a dream


Martin Luther King Jr's day is on January 17 2011!!
When Martin Luther king was growing up whites weren't allowed to play with blacks. That wasn't a nice thing. Back then people of different races and cultures were not treated equally. African and Americans were not treated nicely just because the color of their skin. So Martin Luther King Jr skipped two grades in high school and went to college. Then he went to graduate school to study religion. Thats why people call him Martin Luther King Jr. He became a referent. He became organizing the community to protest segregation to fight for all races. Martin Luther King Jr helped organize peaceful marches around the country. Marchers asked for equal rights and fair treatment of people of all races and cultures. Martin Luther King Jr had a famous speech.
He said "I have a dream that my 4 little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their color of their skin. By the content of their character. People tried to hurt Martin Luther King Jr and scare him away but he did not give up. On  April 4, 1968, Dr.King was at a hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. There, he was shot and killed. A man named James Earl Ray was arrested for assassinating Dr.King.Thousands of people walked in the streets to honor an important leader of the Civil Rights Movement. Today we celebrate Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Day to remember his life and his beliefs.
